WRITING TO PERSUADE – ADVERTISING

This week our lev569el has been investigating  the world of advertising and how we can persuade people by the power  of  writing in an inviting, clear and convincing manner.

We decided to begin by creating a product that would appeal to the general public and make an ad campaign through the use of Poster Art – Here are some of the products created at the immersion stage of our investigation. See what you think.  Next week we will show some of our Posters.

City Of Whitehorse – Caring for the community

IMG_1204[1]

Last Friday the Middle School Students had an outing to the Whitehorse City Council Offices in Nunawading. This term our students are investigating how community resources and people are assigned to a wide range of age groups in order to assist and advise in our general well- being and health.

Michelle Wright is the Community Health Officer for Whitehorse and has had an association with our school over the last few years and one which we hope we can build upon in the future.

During our brief stay we heard from a range of speakers involved in Child Care {Maternal Health} to those who look after the elderly – Old age care – Meals on Wheels and Nursing Homes.

We discovered that one of our Mums – Olivia’s from Grade 1 – works in the area of Elderly Health and together we will look at an action our students and perhaps even our school can take to assist in this area.

Cyber Safety

LAST WEEK OUR MIDDLES CLASS EXAMINED  HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO BE CYBER SAFE.

We initially went to the cybersmart site for kids and looked at a short video on cuber bullying – the site

http://www.cybersmart.gov.au/Young%20Kids.aspx – it is worth a look and below are some of the students comments.

Things we discovered:

Never share your email address or personal details with people you don’t know.

Don’t be fooled by pop- ups saying you have won a prize. They are scams trying to get your personal informationDon’t share photos online or on your phone – you never know who else might see it.

If you are concerned about things you see on your computer – tell your Mum or Dad.

Never write nasty things about anybody online – it is wrong and in some cases against the law.
